Just a couple of glamour shots of our gorgeous Breathless Reads Fall 2012 slipcase. :)

This was a great week to launch our Things We Are Ridiculously Excited About feature, because guess what arrived in the office yesterday? Our Breathless Reads slipcases! Which, you guessed it, we’re ridiculously excited about! These slipcases contain advanced reader copies of all five of the Fall 2012 Breathless Reads titles (Origin by Jessica Khoury, The Innocents by Lili Peloquin, Venom by Fiona Paul, Black City by Elizabeth Richards, and Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes), which we’re so excited to share with the world. Plus, they’re super pretty, and that gorgeous gold color is really brightening up the office. :)

These slipcases will be going out to industry professionals, traditional media, and select bloggers, but we will also be giving a few away on our Breathless Reads Facebook page throughout the summer, so if you haven’t become a fan of Breathless already, be sure to head over and like the page! We also have a Breathless Reads Tumblr which we’ll be posting content on throughout the Breathless Fall 2012 campaign (and beyond), so make sure to follow us there as well!

Hello! How are you? I wanted to know if you had any idea of when your second book will be released. I've searched but I can't find any dates. I really loved the first one and I can't wait to read the second! :)

Hi! Thanks so much for reading! I’m so glad that you enjoyed BORN WICKED. I’m not sure if we have a final release date yet for STAR CURSED — I had originally posted that it would be out in Feb, but it’s been pushed back a bit now. Spring or early summer 2013, though!

This reminds me of Clara Belastra, Finn’s little sister. Personally, I think she’s going to grow up and be a stunner.

A little red in her hair, and Dakota Fanning as Cate? And Elle Fanning as Tess? ILU Fanning sisters!

I want to live in a world where little girls are not pinkified, but where little girls who like pink are not punished for it, either. We can certainly talk about the social pressures surrounding gender roles, and the concerns that people have when they see girls and young women who appear to be forced into performances of femininity by the society around them, but let’s stop acting like they have no agency and free will. Let’s stop acting like women who choose to be feminine are somehow colluders, betraying the movement, bamboozled into thinking that they want to be feminine. Let’s stop denying women their own autonomy by telling them that their expressions of femininity are bad and wrong.

Antifemininity is misogynist. What you are saying when you engage in this type of rhetoric is that you think things traditionally associated with women are wrong. Which is misogynist. By telling feminine women that they don’t belong in the feminist movement, you are reinforcing the idea that to be feminine and a woman is wrong, that women who want to be taken seriously need to be more masculine, because most people view gender presentation in binary ways. This rewards the ‘one of the boys’ type rhetoric I encounter all over the place from self-avowed feminists who seem to think that bashing on women is a good way to prove how serious they are when it comes to caring about women and bringing men into the feminist movement.
